Door number one….two…or three !
My
introduction should not be complicated, but sometimes introducing myself can be
a chore. Traversing the sun 55 times has given me quite an arsenal of
unbelievable worldly experiences.
So, lets start with door number….ONE !
People
call me Rock (or some variation such as: Rocko, Rocky, Rock Lobster, ETC.) I
grew up in Whittier, which is 11 miles east of Los Angeles. I like to brag that
I grew up in a quasi music period that consisted of some great radio stations,
concerts and music genres. What made it really great was working at a radio
station as an intern and running a successful mobile DJ outfit and working in
some fun record shops.
I
have served in the Marine Corps and the Army. Until recently, Wells Fargo had
been my employer for 25 years. Today, I am a full time student.
Moving on to door number
two…..my interest, hobbies and passions !!
Photography is my biggest
passion, it allows me to share creative photo ops of my adventures and
journeys. The desert is very pivotal in many of life experiences. Hiking or
driving to some remote place and letting my soul wonder into the landscape and
briefly forgetting about time.
I have a blog, website and
Facebook page about the desert which I like to write about ghost towns, hiking
and off-road trails and nature. Feel free to visit my desert page at www.facebook.com/desertmag or www.swdeserts.com
Music is still a big part
of my life. I like to brag that I have a trillion songs…ok maybe a zillion songs
in my collection. My life is a vast music soundtrack. Many events in my life
are recalled by a song. I also have what might be the largest rock shirt
collection in the world if not the universe. I do have a guitar that quietly
collects dust on the wall.
I also spend a lot of time
tinkering on my Jeep Wrangler or VW Westfalia. There is something relaxing when
you can resolve mechanical issues instead of having someone else fix it.
Movies that I have
enjoyed: Into the Wild, Dances With Wolves, Wild, 127 hours, Lawrence of
Arabia, Seven Years In Tibet, The Motorcycle Diaries, Endless Summer, 180
South, Life of Pi……
For
most of my adult life I never had the inclination to sit for hours in a
classroom. Art and photography classes were the exception! Two years ago my
life was altered when I found out my corporate job that I had for 25 years was
being axed and the military said my services were no longer needed. For the
last two years I have taken the required classes to get my AA, art\photo and
automotive technology degree. Math is my only class that I need to
overcome. I wish I had done this earlier
in my life…as I am really enjoying coming to the college.
